(2018 – Present)
The Phred’s Pllace Adult Transition Program partners with Special Abilities Camp organizations to provide a safe and empowering environment where our young adults can successfully learn the job and independent living skills that can help them transition into adulthood successfully and confidently. Through this program we introduce our participants into a positive living community filled with love, respect, precise directions and safe working conditions combined with lots of fun off time activities.
Kids in Motion (2012 – 2017)
The Kids In Motion experience was a program we designed to fit the young adult special needs population. Our daughter Jessica is a great example of what most parents with special needs kids are experiencing. Jessica is a young adult, she wants to hang out with her friends, do fun things but not with her parents. She wanted to be independent and have fun experiences. We designed Kids In Motion to fit that need. We have the most amazing counselors who have many years of experience working with special needs individuals. They understand and love these kids with all their hearts.
Kids in Motion started in the summer of 2012 as a small program to get young adults with special needs out with their peers doing fun things like bowling, movies, laser tag, cooking, volunteer work, etc. Kids In Motion has been an incredible success. We allow campers the opportunity to spend time with their peers doing various activities in a fun, safe environment. There are not many programs like ours available to parents of special needs children. Our parents have been so grateful for the chance their children have to participate, grow relationships with each other and blossom in our program.
One of our camper’s favorite activities. We utilized printed recipes to work with the campers on things like measurements, following directions, kitchen safety, etc. We made everything from pizza for lunch and cupcakes for dessert and we worked up to an entire chicken enchilada dinner with homemade salsa that our campers got to take home and serve to their families.
Sports: Bowling, Swimming, Redneck Baseball
We love pool days; there is no better way to cool off from the hot Texas heat then spending the day with our friends in the pool. From trying our bowling skills at the bowling ally to playing redneck baseball, which is the water version of kickball are great fun!
Ranch Critters is located in Hempstead, TX. It is a wonderful non-profit organization that is a rescue and sanctuary for unwanted equine animals. Our campers spent one day a week the entire summer helping take care of the animals, completing everyday chores and even helped repair and paint a fence. It was an amazing experience.
